The long-term project has an opening for a (paid) internship, to be filled at the earliest possible date. This internship will give the successful applicant the opportunity to expand his or her knowledge about the Biblical tradition in Coptic and to receive further hands-on training in editorial methods, manuscript studies and digital humanities, as applied to the Coptic Bible and Coptic literature.

The intern will commit to working 30 hrs per week in a variety of tasks, which will depend on his or her experience and interests and the current Old Testament project focus. If pursuing a research project within the wider field of the Coptic Bible the intern will be able to dedicate up to 50% of this time to his or her own research.

Prerequisites are a degree in Coptic Studies or a project-related field (Egyptology, Biblical Studies, History of Christianity, Digital Humanities or similar) and a working knowledge of Coptic. Other language skills (in particular in Ancient Greek) are welcomed.
The appointment is for one year, with a possibility for an extension. It is available either as a part-time employment (internship) contract or as a scholarship contract. Details will be provided upon request.

Please direct enquiries and (electronic) applications (short CV, digital copies of diplomas or transcripts and letter of motivation) by May 15, 2016 to Prof. Heike Behlmer or Dr Frank Feder.

A Coptic Keyboard for iPhone and iPad

Apps for Coptic have been available in iOS for quite some time, but with the introduction of iOS 8 developers were enabled to publish their own custom keyboards. Here’s a little bit of information on how to install Coptic fonts and keyboards on iPhones and iPads.

You have to purchase two apps from the AppStore first. AnyFont ($1.99) is little helper utility to install bascially any TrueType (.ttf) or OpenTypeFont (.otf) on your iPad or iPhone. The fonts are available system wide in iOS, so it can help you with fonts for other languages than Coptic, too. KeyKit Customizable Keyboard ($1.99, with $0.99 in-app-purchase) is a full-flegded keyboard editor and customizer for iOS. I have created my own Coptic keyboard for the Antinoou Font with KeyKit. To install it, simply download this .keykit file on your iOS device and open it with the Keykit app. Then follow the installation instructions given in the app. Note that the keyboard is gesture based, so the behaviour is a little bit different from the standard keyboards built into iOS. Swipe down to get access to the shifted keyboard layout. On some keys you can also swipe up to select special characters like brackets, diacritics, etc. A keyboard chart for Coptic.keykit can be downloaded here.

Summer School Public Lectures

Public Lectures in Göttingen

Kulturwissenschaftliches Zentrum (KWZ), Heinrich-Düker-Weg 14

Tuesday (July 21) – KWZ 2.601

9:00 – 10:30 Frank Feder, The Sahidic Version of the Old Testament
13:00 – 14:15 Nathalie Bosson, Textual Criticism of the Coptic Bible
14:30 – 15:45 Nathalie Bosson, Pap.
